To celebrate the launch of its new DJ category, Twitch partnered with StagePilot to produce an ambitious 24-hour global livestream uniting 24 DJs across continents, cultures, and time zones.
The project blended large-scale technical orchestration with cultural storytelling, creating a continuous “Raid”-driven broadcast that moved audiences seamlessly from one artist’s channel to the next. Legendary pioneers like Grandmaster Flash joined contemporary acts including SOFI TUKKER and Cheat Codes, each supported by custom animation packages, technical onboarding, and coordinated account management designed to maintain a cohesive visual and narrative identity throughout the day-long event.
The global livestream culminated on August 8 at 8:08 PM with a live finale produced by StagePilot in New York City at Elsewhere. The venue was transformed into an immersive “global DJ headquarters,” where massive screens displayed real-time feeds from the worldwide broadcast alongside live fan chat and dynamic Twitch graphics. Headlined by Grammy-winning producer Zedd, the finale integrated a 60-minute live set directly into the ongoing stream, bridging the digital and physical audiences into a single shared moment. The night concluded with Twitch CEO Dan Clancy joining Zedd on stage to announce a landmark licensing agreement enabling DJs to stream an expansive catalog of music from major and independent labels without fear of takedowns.
The impact was immediate and global. The broadcast drew more than six million unique live viewers, generated widespread social engagement from artists and fans, and earned extensive press coverage alongside large-scale promotion across Times Square. More than a one-day event, 808 on Twitch demonstrated how thoughtfully produced livestreams can activate entire creator ecosystems — blending music culture, platform innovation, and premium live production into a format designed for both real-time engagement and long-term cultural reach.
